My freshman year of college, I had a good friend who carried lip balm with her everywhere, and I do mean everywhere. She inspired me to do the same but in a slightly less obsessive way. I have pretty dry lips year-round, so this ended up being a pretty good habit for me. Stick balms can be boring, though — unless they’re tinted like Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer.
These sticks have the peppermint scent and tingle that Burt’s Bees is known for. They’re also tinted and shiny. They pack quite the color punch, though, which I was surprised by. These sticks have the lasting color of a lipstick, the conditioning qualities of a lip balm and the shine of a gloss.
The color swatches and even lids for these are pretty misleading. I have Watermelon, Radiance and Fig (which you can’t see in the photo) Fig is my favorite. It’s a pretty, deep berry red. Watermelon is a medium pink with a hint of purple that could feel very ’80s if used in conjunction with the wrong products. Radiance is sheer and shimmery.
“Lip Shimmer” is a bit misleading. The only color out of the three I own that actually is shimmery is Radiance. The other two are solid, shiny colors, which I appreciate. At $5 a pop, picking up one — or three — is a wise choice.
